Seven frames with EF 50-200mm f/3.5-4.5 L

Image
Finally, we got some sunshine in this corner of the world. I finished work earlier so I could test my recently purchased Canon EF 50-200mm f/3.5-4.5 L lens. This time, I chose the Canon R6 as the camera body. Canon EF 50-200mm f/3.5-4.5 L To my disappointment, I quickly realized that the lens hood I have for the 'standard version' of the Canon EF 50-200mm f/3.5-4.5 doesn’t fit this L-series lens, even though the two lenses look very similar. So, I headed out into the sunny weather without a lens hood— lens flare incoming! With the help of an adapter, it snaps perfectly onto the R6. It’s fun—and a real win for us consumers—that I can use a 1988 lens on a 2020 camera without any compatibility issues. And as a bonus, IBIS works with these older lenses on newer camera bodies! EF 50-200mm f/3.5-4.5 L @ 200mm f/6.3 Of course, the camera doesn’t offer any CA or vignetting corrections for this lens (or really for any of these older EF lenses). Also, Lightroom doesn’t have any built...

Short walk with X10

Image
Earlier this week, I went for an evening walk in the neighborhood where I live, with my companion, the Fujifilm X10 compact camera. There isn’t much to photograph here, especially in winter, and this time the weather was cold. At the beginning of the walk, it was even snowing almost horizontally because of the strong wind. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. The X10 is a small camera that fits conveniently in the pocket of a winter coat. A great place for a little camera on a snowy, freezing day, as it’s at least somewhat sheltered from the elements. Thanks to its compact size, it also doesn’t attract much attention from passersby, allowing me to shoot in peace without anyone asking, “Is that a Nikon or a Canon?” Old town hall As I mentioned, the weather wasn’t particularly photogenic. The sunset was already behind me, and the evening was getting darker. The earlier snowfall had covered everything under a fresh layer of snow. However, there was still enough light for me to shoot wit...

First roll with Canon T90

Image
I recently bought a Canon T90 SLR camera. Although I have a lot of FD lenses, I have never actually owned a camera compatible with them but have always used the lenses with adapters. FD lenses are my favorites, and I use them a lot. The Canon T90 is a professional-grade SLR camera that was released in 1986 and was also the last FD-mount camera body manufactured by Canon. The Canon T60 was technically the last one, but it was not made by Canon itself—it was produced by a third party and branded under Canon's name . The T90 is probably one of the most advanced, if not the most advanced, manual focus cameras and is the predecessor of the EOS-1 and the entire 1-series in terms of design. The camera is extremely versatile, yet also ergonomic and easy to use. When I bought the camera, the seller threw in an extra body as a bonus. The second body doesn’t show any error codes, but it only makes a slight clicking sound when pressing the shutter. I haven’t looked into it closely yet, but...

Canon 1D Mark II

Image
Canon 1D Mark II Alright! It’s time for my first writing, let's start with something old. I recently bought an old professional DSLR, and as the title suggests, it’s the Canon 1D Mark II . About ten years ago, I had a 1D Mark IIN , but unfortunately, its shutter broke. It was my first-ever professional DSLR, and I absolutely loved it. There was something about it that really captivated me back then, and I’ve missed its magic ever since. Even though the camera had that magic, I also remember its flaws —especially the batteries and their capacity, which were absolutely dreadful. In Finland’s winter climate, it drained batteries quickly, and the dynamic range was rather limited. Well, I finally got around to buying a 1D Mark II at a great price. Despite its shutter count (~48,000), the camera is in amazing condition. I charged the batteries and took it for a test run in beautiful  but cold winter weather (-15°C). First of all, the ergonomics of the camera are fantastic. Especi...
